World of Hyatt:
The Complete Guide

Everything you need to know about World of Hyatt — tiers, earning, the category-based award chart, the brand portfolio, and how to maximise your points value as a UK traveller. Updated for 2026.

Programme Overview

World of Hyatt is the loyalty programme of Hyatt Hotels Corporation, headquartered in Chicago. The programme is free to join and covers more than 1,500 properties across over 80 countries, spanning more than 30 brands. As of the end of 2025, World of Hyatt has over 63 million members — a 19% year-over-year increase — making it the fastest-growing hotel loyalty programme in the industry.

Despite having a smaller footprint than rivals like Hilton (7,800+ properties) or IHG (7,000+), World of Hyatt is widely regarded as offering the highest per-point value of any major hotel loyalty programme. Points are worth approximately 1.7–2.0 US cents each — roughly 2–4 times more than competitors.

Points expire after 24 months of account inactivity. Any qualifying activity — earning, redeeming, buying, or transferring points — resets the clock. Unlike some competitors, elite status does not protect your points from expiry.

Important: You must book directly with Hyatt (via hyatt.com, the World of Hyatt app, or by calling Hyatt) to earn points and receive elite benefits. Bookings through Booking.com, Expedia, or other OTAs do not qualify.

Tier Structure

World of Hyatt has four membership tiers plus Lifetime Globalist. Status is earned in a calendar year and valid through the end of February two years later (e.g., earning Globalist in 2026 provides status through 28 February 2028).

How to Earn World of Hyatt Points

Hotel Stays

The foundation of earning. Most Hyatt brands earn 5 base points per $1 spent on eligible charges including room rate, dining, and spa. Elite bonuses stack on top.

UK Earning Options

World of Hyatt is not a transfer partner of American Express Membership Rewards — neither in the UK nor globally. Unlike Hilton Honors and IHG One Rewards, you cannot transfer Amex points to Hyatt. This is the single biggest earning limitation for UK-based travellers.

The primary credit card transfer routes — Chase Ultimate Rewards (1:1 ratio) and Bilt Rewards (1:1 ratio) — are US-only products, not available to UK residents.

Buying Hyatt Points

Up to 55,000 points per year at 2.6 US cents each. Periodic promotions offer 20–30% discounts. At ~1.4p per point value, buying at promotional rates can deliver genuine savings on aspirational stays.

No UK Hyatt Credit Card

The World of Hyatt credit cards are issued by Chase and available only in the US. There is no UK co-branded Hyatt card, and no Amex Membership Rewards transfer partnership exists.

Promotions

World of Hyatt runs regular bonus point promotions such as Bonus Journeys (earn 3,000 bonus points for every 3 qualifying nights, up to 21,000 bonus points). Avis car rentals earn 500 points per qualifying rental using Hyatt's Avis code.

Always register for promotions before your stay. Unregistered promotions are not credited retroactively.

How Redemption Works: Category-Based Award Chart

World of Hyatt uses a published, category-based award chart — one of the last major hotel programmes to do so. Every property is assigned a category from 1 (least expensive) to 8 (most expensive). This provides significantly more predictability than the fully dynamic pricing used by IHG and Hilton.

New Five-Tier Award Chart (From May 2026)

Hyatt is expanding from 3 to 5 redemption tiers. The biggest change to the programme since peak pricing was introduced. Points per night for a standard room:

Category 8 “Top” pricing is 75,000 points — a 67% increase from the previous Peak of 45,000. Rollout is gradual: limited properties will use Upper and Top tiers in 2026. All bookings made before May 2026 are honoured at current rates.

Guest of Honor

Unique to Hyatt and widely considered the most generous elite benefit in hotel loyalty. Allows Globalist members to book a stay for someone else — and the guest receives full Globalist benefits including suite upgrades, complimentary breakfast, and waived resort fees. Earned as milestone rewards from 40 qualifying nights. Awards are valid for the calendar year earned plus 14 months. No other hotel programme offers an equivalent benefit.

Points + Cash

Combine half the standard points cost with 50–70% off the cash rate. Available for standard rooms, standard suites, and premium suites. Points + Cash stays earn qualifying night credits and points on the cash portion. Note: resort fees are not waived on Points + Cash bookings unless you have Globalist status.

Suite Upgrade Awards

Earned through Globalist milestone rewards. One award covers up to 7 consecutive nights in a standard suite. Unlike check-in upgrades, these can be confirmed at the time of booking when availability exists. Valid for the calendar year earned plus 14 months. Can be transferred to other World of Hyatt members.

How Hyatt compares: At ~1.4p per point, Hyatt points are worth roughly 3.5x more than Hilton (~0.3p), 2.3x more than IHG (~0.5p), and 2.3x more than Marriott (~0.6p). This is why Hyatt is consistently rated the most valuable hotel points currency despite the smaller programme.

The best redemption values arise when you:

  • Redeem at all-inclusive resorts (Ziva, Zilara, Dreams, Secrets) where meals, drinks, and activities are included — often 2–4x benchmark value
  • Book aspirational luxury stays (Park Hyatt, Alila) where cash rates exceed £790+/night
  • Target category sweet spots where cash rates are disproportionately high relative to the points cost
  • Book off-peak or lowest-tier nights at properties with normally high cash rates

Avoid: Transferring Hyatt points to airlines (2.5:1 ratio destroys value), redeeming for dining or spa credits (capped at ~1.2p per point), and paying “Top” tier rates when the cash price doesn't justify the points spend.

Mr & Mrs Smith properties use dynamic pricing rather than the category-based chart. This partnership significantly expands Hyatt's reach, particularly in Europe and the UK.

UK-Specific Considerations

17 UK Hotels (and Growing)

Hyatt has 17 hotels across 9 brands in the UK — far smaller than Hilton (700+) or IHG (355). However, Hyatt plans 30% UK portfolio growth between 2025 and 2026, adding over 1,000 rooms. The Mr & Mrs Smith partnership also adds numerous UK boutique properties bookable through World of Hyatt.

Notable UK Hyatt Properties

Park Hyatt London River Thames

Flagship luxury in Nine Elms. Opened October 2024. Category 8 -- Hyatt's premier London property.

Andaz London Liverpool Street

Five-star lifestyle hotel in a Grade II listed 1884 building. Category 5. Heart of the City.

Great Scotland Yard Hotel

Hyatt Regency Manchester

Hyatt Centric Cambridge

Lifestyle hotel in the historic university city. Category 3.

Coming Soon: Hyatt Regency London Olympia

No UK Credit Card, No Amex Transfer

The biggest limitation for UK travellers. There is no co-branded Hyatt credit card in the UK, and World of Hyatt is not an Amex Membership Rewards transfer partner. The US-only Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt Rewards programmes (both 1:1 transfer to Hyatt) are not available to UK residents. Your main earning routes are hotel stays and buying points during promotional sales.

Best Rate Guarantee

When booking on hyatt.com, if you find a lower public rate elsewhere for the same room and dates, Hyatt will match it plus give you either a 20% additional discount or 5,000 bonus points. Claims must be submitted within 24 hours of booking, at least 24 hours before check-in. This is considered one of the most straightforward best rate guarantee programmes among major hotel chains.

Recent Changes 2025–2026

Five-Tier Award Chart (May 2026)

The biggest programme change in years. Expanding from 3 to 5 redemption tiers (Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper, Top). Category 8 maximum rises from 45,000 to 75,000 points -- a 67% increase. However, the cheapest nights get slightly cheaper. All pre-May bookings honoured at current rates.

Annual Category Updates (March 2025)

151 hotels changed category. 118 went up, 33 went down -- a 78% to 22% upward split. Categories are reviewed annually.

Digital Points Sharing (2026)

Online points sharing through the app and website, replacing the previous manual PDF-based process. Makes it significantly easier to combine points with family and friends.

Early Award Access (May 2026)

Explorist, Globalist, and World of Hyatt credit cardholders can book award nights 13 months in advance -- one month before general members.

Free Night Certificate Enhancement

From May 2026, free night certificates cover any tier night at eligible properties -- including "Upper" and "Top" nights. A Category 1-7 certificate could be worth up to 55,000 points.

UK Portfolio Growth

Hyatt announced 30%+ UK portfolio growth between 2025 and 2026. New openings include Hyatt Place Leeds, Hyatt House Leeds, and the upcoming Hyatt Regency London Olympia (May 2026).

Brand Reorganisation (Early 2025)

Hyatt reorganised its 30+ brands into five portfolios: Luxury, Lifestyle, Inclusive, Classics, and Essentials. New brands include Hyatt Select and Unscripted by Hyatt.

Practical Tips for UK Travellers

Book directly, always.

Points and elite benefits are only earned on direct bookings via hyatt.com, the World of Hyatt app, or by calling Hyatt. Bookings through OTAs forfeit all earning and elite benefits.

Buy points during promotional sales.

With no UK credit card or Amex transfer partnership, buying points during 20-30% discount promotions is the most practical way to top up your balance. Annual limit: 55,000 points.

Target all-inclusive resorts for maximum value.

Hyatt Ziva, Zilara, Dreams, and Secrets resorts include meals, drinks, and activities in the award -- often delivering 2-4x the benchmark per-point value.

Use the Best Rate Guarantee.

Before every stay, search for lower rates on OTAs. If you find one, submit a claim within 24 hours of your Hyatt.com booking for either a 20% additional discount or 5,000 bonus points.

Ask about Hyatt Prive for luxury stays.

Booking through a Hyatt Privé travel agent adds £39.5-£79 credit, breakfast, and guaranteed upgrades at participating luxury properties — on top of your World of Hyatt elite benefits.

Register for every promotion.

World of Hyatt runs regular bonus point promotions (e.g., Bonus Journeys). Registration is always required before your qualifying stay -- promotions are not credited retroactively.

Book award stays before May 2026 if possible.

The new five-tier chart increases pricing significantly at the top end. Pre-May bookings are honoured at current rates. If rates drop, Hyatt automatically refunds the difference.

Leverage Mr & Mrs Smith for UK options.

With only 17 direct Hyatt UK properties, the Mr & Mrs Smith partnership (1,200+ boutique/luxury hotels) significantly expands your options for earning and redeeming domestically.

Is World of Hyatt Worth It?

Yes — World of Hyatt is widely considered the best hotel loyalty programme, despite having the smallest footprint among the major chains. The combination of a published award chart, the highest per-point value (~1.4p vs. 0.3–0.6p for competitors), and genuinely industry-leading elite benefits makes it stand out.

Globalist status is arguably the best top-tier hotel status in the industry. Confirmed suite upgrades, complimentary breakfast for the family, the unique Guest of Honor benefit, and waived resort fees represent real, tangible value that competitors struggle to match.

The programme's main weakness for UK travellers is the difficulty of earning points outside of hotel stays. With no UK credit card, no Amex transfer partnership, and only 17 UK properties, building a Hyatt points balance requires deliberate effort — primarily through hotel stays and strategic point purchases.

However, the quality of the redemption experience compensates for the earning difficulty. For UK travellers who stay at Hyatt properties internationally — particularly in the US, Asia, and the Middle East where the portfolio is strongest — World of Hyatt is an excellent programme. For those who primarily travel within the UK, the limited domestic footprint may make IHG or Hilton more practical day-to-day, while reserving Hyatt loyalty for aspirational international stays. Search Rewardo to find the best availability before you book.

How World of Hyatt compares

World of Hyatt is the smallest of the four by hotel count but consistently the most valuable per point. Here's how it compares with Hilton Honors, IHG One Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy.

Where Hyatt wins

Value and predictability. At roughly 1.4p per point, Hyatt points are worth around 3.5× Hilton's and more than double IHG's and Marriott's — and Hyatt is the only one of the four to keep a published, category-based award chart, so you can plan a redemption rather than gamble against dynamic pricing. Globalist perks (suite upgrades, full breakfast, club lounge access and waived resort fees) and the unique Guest of Honor benefit are best-in-class.

Where it falls short

Footprint and earning access. With only around 17 UK hotels (versus 700+ for Hilton), the right Hyatt isn't always where you need it, and Hyatt is not an Amex Membership Rewards transfer partner in the UK and has no UK co-branded card — so building a balance is harder. From May 2026 a new five-tier chart raises the Category 8 ceiling by 67% (45,000 → 75,000 points), a meaningful devaluation at the top end.

Compare the others in depth: Hilton Honors, IHG One Rewards and Marriott Bonvoy.
